About Bantam Knits

Both Eveline and Alex have a background of Art College education in Textiles, and have worked with textiles all their working lives, they started Bantam knits together in the Spring of 2008.

The venture has resulted in a range of innovative and evolving designs for a variety of products. The process of knitting is the starting point of each of the lines. The inspiration behind the range of cashmere or lambswool scarves ranges from Mark Rothko paintings to the windswept salt marsh coast of East Anglia and Zeeland, Holland.

The lambswool cushions in sumptuous colours feel soft and warm to the touch and the throws are a definite luxury. Now they are working on a range of bags with vintage printed linings.

The overall look of the products is one of simplicity and classical elegance, but above all, each one is a unique piece due to the nature of the hand-dyeing techniques involved in their production.

We are Alex & Eveline

Eveline Droge originates from Oisterwijk in Holland but has lived in London for half of her life. She has memories from her childhood of jumping into bales of freshly washed lambswool, at her father’s wool washing factory and the fact that her father’s clothes often smelled of wool when he came home.

Alex Mayer also has textiles in her blood as her father’s family, although English built a textile mill in St Petersburg, Russia almost 200 years ago with three generations living and working there before beating a hasty retreat right about the time of the revolution. In fact her grandfather hid in a woodpile for two days before bribing a train driver to take him to Murmansk and there are plenty more tales like that....
